As I sit in my kitchen looking out the window at a cold a blustery winter day, it’s a good time for reflection on the 2016 season.

2016 was filled with ups and downs which in itself mirrors life.

I would have to say that the biggest down was the loss of my best friend and once in a lifetime Olympic horse KAESAR. He was a life force, and my constant companion for the past 26 years. I miss his presence every minute of every day. There will never be another like him, and I was very lucky to have him. Click on the picture below to see the story on Kaesar.

We also lost our dog of 17 years, Rocky. He was a quirky Jack Russel and my husband Iain’s best buddy. His last years were quite trying but he had a heart of gold.

ON TO THE POSITIVE!

After an almost twenty-year hiatus from competing at the 3* level of International eventing, Acrobat and I successfully completed the Carolina CIC*** and jumped double clear around The Fork CIC***!

The sport has changed immensely in the last twenty years. The days of “Jack of all trades, master of none” are long gone!

We were lucky to have triple Olympic Gold medalist, World, European and Rolex Grand Slam Champion Michael Jung join us at The Royal Indoor Eventing this year. Michael exemplifies being a master at all three phases, and that is why he has dominated eventing for the past many years. He has FEI dressage horses, event horses and show jumpers. He and his family are lovely, they have inspired me to raise my game at every level personally and professionally.

My OTTB “My Man Jack” officially become an FEI horse completing his first FEI event Bromont CCI* in the ribbons! I am very excited about Jack’s future, at only seven I hope he has a lot of years ahead of him on the International stage.

I also have a very new exciting horse to add to my team

McLovin

McLovin is a twelve-year-old thoroughbred gelding that jumped clear around North America’s toughest, and most prestigious CCI**** Rolex Kentucky in 2016.
I am hoping to qualify McLovin for the 2018 WEG’s held here in North America at Tryon Equestrian Centre in North Carolina, and The Tokyo Olympics in 2020!

With those big goals in mind we are off to Florida in mid-December until mid-April to train and compete.
